With its first Campus Innovation, Bouygues Construction has big ideas for innovation
Two days with the same ambition
At the heart of our strategy and deeply rooted in each of our businesses, innovation is a powerful lever of competitive differentiation. As a clear sign of our commitment to the subject, Bouygues Construction has decided to turn the spotlight on innovation for two days, on October 6 and 7. This major event will bring together the Group’s employees and more than 400 customers and partners for two days, and will include seven round table discussions and more than 45 stands. This is a unique opportunity to showcase innovations that are drivers of sustainable construction, to which we devote half of our R&D budget every year.
The highlight of the day on October 6, which is reserved for employees, will be the award ceremony for the Innovation Competition, which shows that at Bouygues Construction, innovation is everybody’s business. More than 2,000 employees took part in the competition in 2014, which is double the number than took part in the very first competition back in 2006, and a total of 889 entries were recorded, taking all of our businesses into account. Held every two years, the competition rewards the best inventions submitted by Group employees, both in France and in other countries.
Innovating with our partners
On October 7, our customers and partners as well as members of the general public are cordially invited to visit the exhibition of the Group’s flagship innovations, ranging from an exploratory drone to a demonstration of robots. As Bouygues Construction does not act alone, but by interacting with its ecosystem, the Campus Innovation specifically highlights projects carried out in collaboration with external partners, including other companies, start-ups, public-sector bodies and universities. Also featured will be Renault’s Eco2Charge project for smart management of energy-storage systems using second-life electric vehicle batteries, hybrid solar panels from DualSun and Panobloc® , a prefabricated timber panel that improves the thermal performance of buildings.
In the afternoon, there will be a series of round table discussions, during which prominent players, be they urban planners, specialists, industrial operators or decision-makers, will share their vision and experience of major issues relating to sustainable construction, to urban development, to new methods of funding for major projects, to the rehabilitation of existing building stock and to energy performance. At 6 p.m., Yves Gabriel, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bouygues Construction, will chair the closing debate, on the theme of “the sustainable and connected city”, a topic on which the Group has focused many of its innovation initiatives for several years.
During the course of this very special day, our teams will be offering visitors guided tours of our flagship head office, Challenger, the first building in the world to achieve triple LEED®, BREEAM® and HQE® certification and the pilot site for many of the innovations developed or adapted with the aim of reducing a building’s consumption and use local natural resources for energy production.
