Bouygues Construction invents a new tool to keep running costs down in new buildings
Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France, a subsidiary of Bouygues Construction, is launching a new service: the Energy-Pass, a tool designed to help keep a tight control of running costs in new buildings.
In the social housing sector, Energy-Pass consists in fitting a monitor screen in each flat to gauge and keep track of the consumption of heating, hot water and electricity. The service also includes an information and support campaign for tenants devised in conjunction with specialised sociologists, as well as technical maintenance of the buildings over a period of several years.
The Energy-Pass enables social landlords to provide their tenants with a means of controlling their energy costs. In addition, the screens installed in tenants' homes can also be used to offer a range of additional services, such as weather forecasts, public transport timetables, etc., according to needs and requests expressed by tenants and landlords.
These services have been developed in partnership with the social landlord France Habitation (part of the Astria Group) on an experimental basis for an initial operation in Bobigny, north of Paris. The project has received financial support from the ADEME (the French Environment and Energy Management Agency) because of its particularly innovative nature. The occupants of 54 social housing units in the République district of Bobigny handed over in June can now make use of this service to help reduce their energy costs.
In order to maintain the lowest possible level of energy consumption in its buildings, France Habitation familiarises all its tenants with sustainable development measures. The performance of a technically efficient building is enhanced if it is properly used.
Bouygues Construction is highly committed to improving the energy efficiency of new and renovated buildings. In December 2010, the Group signed the first Energy Performance Contract (CPE) in France for housing in Vitry-sur-Seine, in the southern suburbs of Paris (social housing).
Bouygues Construction has also given a substantial undertaking with regard to energy efficiency in issuing a guarantee covering the energy consumption in all spheres and for all utilisations of the future French Ministry of Defence in Balard, in southwest Paris.
