Bouygues Travaux Publics, a member of a joint venture formed with Lendlease and Samsung, chosen to construct the WestConnex motorway link in Sydney

Plan WestConnex
In Australia, the New South Wales Government has awarded the contract for designing and constructing the twin 7.5-kilometre motorway tunnels forming part of the WestConnex project in Sydney to the Lendlease Samsung Bouygues Joint Venture (LSBJV), which consists of Lendlease Engineering, Samsung C&T Corporation and Bouygues Construction Australia (subsidiary of Bouygues Travaux Publics). The financial close of the operation, took place on Thursday, September 27.

Jean-Philippe Trin, President of Bouygues Travaux Publics, said: “We are proud of the trust shown in us by our customer for the construction of the M4-M5 Link Tunnels of the WestConnex motorway. The strength of the consortium formed by Bouygues Construction, Lendlease and Samsung lies in our complementary technical expertise and in our knowledge of the Australian infrastructure market and territory.”

The M4-M5 Link Tunnels form part of an integrated transport plan known as WestConnex, located in the inner west of Sydney. Bouygues Construction Australia and its partners are responsible for Stage 3A, which comprises two 7.5-kilometre four-lane tunnels linking the M4 East motorway at Haberfield to the New M5 motorway at the St Peters Interchange.

When the 33-kilometre WestConnex motorway is completed, it will ease the daily life of the 5.25 million inhabitants of Sydney, the largest city in Australia. By improving the connection between the centre of Sydney and surrounding suburbs, the new motorway will support the region’s economic and demographic growth.

Works will begin in late 2018, and are scheduled for completion in 2023.
