What is BBCA?

BBCA (low carbon building), is tomorrow's certification for building offices and housing. It is part of France's new heat regulation RT2020, whose flagship project is the energy-plus-house, a building that produces more energy than it consumes.
The organisation with the same name, created in October 2015 by professionals in the sector, initiated this new certification in March 2016.

This accreditation takes into account the real impact of buildings on global warming using two criteria:

• the rate of CO2 emission output

• all fifty years of a building's life cycle, from producing materials to assembling, using and destroying them!

In concrete terms

On 5 July, France's minister for housing and sustainable construction, Emmanuelle Cosse, presented awards to the 15 first national BBCA-accredited projects alongside property stakeholders at a ceremony at the Pavillon de l’Arsenal in Paris.

Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France was thereby awarded three times: for a complex of six housing units, for another of 15 housing units in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, and for an apartment building of 23 housing units in Issy-les-Moulineaux in the Hauts-de-Seine department.

This certification was granted thanks to work performed on site and the materials chosen: reduced construction lead time, low environmental impact, few worksite pollutants, wood and low-carbon concrete often favoured, sharing economy promoted;  but also thanks to well-controlled, low-carbon operations: heat pumps, sanitary water heated by solar power, electrical heating, different lighting settings for the user, very good acoustic comfort between housing units, etc.

2020 Objective

These three awards pay tribute to the teams' work. They do not mark a final goal reached, but rather the group's desire to  always implement its energy and carbon strategy in keeping with the 2015 COP21 Paris climate agreements and with the future French RBR 2020 regulation ('responsible building' regulation).
